If you want to read my review of Evergreen Love, read this post. In 植物図鑑, Sayaka doesn’t have big emotions in her solitary life. One day, Itsuki, a mysterious boy full of secrets, passes out in front of her house. She takes him in and the two start living as roommates.
Kono Sayaka (Mitsuki Takahata) is a 23-year-old real estate agent. She lives alone and has a very monotonous life. She has no culinary skills and, at work, she is bullied by her boss.
“I have been thinking, lately, that God is unfair.”
Itsuki (Takanori Iwata) is a very gifted boy who, knows how to cook very well, has extensive knowledge in botany and is writing an illustrated plant book.
“I don’t bite. I am a disciplined boy.”
For a person who survived by eating kombini obentos, Sayaka was very impressed with Itsuki’s cooking skills. Therefore, Sayaka suggests that Itsuki live at her house for as long as necessary. Gradually, the passion began to emerge. But, Itsuki’s secrets prevent them from being together.
Evergreen Love: japanese movie review

Itsuki is a good guy, very polite and plays with the term “adoption” to break the ice with Sayaka. But, in fact, she is really delighted with the taste of his food. He captivated the heart and reminded her of her mother.
“It smells like my mother’s cooking.”
Itsuki, without explaining why, asks to stay exactly 6 months at Sayaka’s house and hosting him gave her life a new flavor. Literally and figuratively. Of course, Sayaka didn’t want to let Itsuki go or go back to the dull day-to-day life she was living.
“The coffee you made me would be good to eat tomorrow and the day after and the day after.”
Sayaka knew almost nothing about him. Not even the full name. But meeting Itsuki and starting this strange lifestyle with a houseguest changed her life and future.
Itsuki was a very gifted man and used all his skills to make up for not helping with the household bills. He was as didactic as possible with Sayaka, teaching a little of everything he knew
“No plant is called ‘weed’. They all have a name.”
He quickly gets a job at the kombine store, overnight. With that, the time together was more reserved for the weekends.
For a lonely person who didn’t know how to cook, Sayaka became very happy and looked forward to spending time with Itsuki every day. Thus, they fell in love.
“Don’t fade away. Always stay by my side, Itsuki.”
The house, which Sayaka didn’t want to go back to, became a real home that she yearned to return to every day. Those were the best 6 months of Sayaka’s life. But, now, Itsuki is gone.
Evergreen Love review: why did Itsuki disappear?

Now, they were a very much in love couple. Even so, Itsuki disappeared. Going back to the old way of life, before meeting Itsuki, living together with him and having learned what happy days are, made Sayaka’s old life very painful.
Sayaka was dead inside. If they were still just roommates, she would force herself to understand. But, now they had a serious relationship that was abruptly ended.
Sayaka had no idea of Itsuki’s whereabouts and since she didn’t know anything about his personal life, she had no way of investigating. Gradually, the alternative that remained for Sayaka was to return to the lifestyle without great pleasures that she had already become unaccustomed to.
Why you should watch Evergreen Love

I won’t leave Evergreen Love ending explained or a download link here, but, know that is a light and relaxed love story. With beautiful images of the interior of Japan. Also, the soundtrack has beautiful piano arrangements and one of the most beautiful japanese songs i’ve ever heard, JUJU – Yasashisa de afureru youni.
Perhaps, this Japanese film will help you to become aware if you have a banal, monotonous life, without great emotions. No one deserves to have a life that consists of going to work, coming home and eating poorly.
