Call Boy

If you want to read my review of Call boy, read this post. In 娼年, Morinaka Ryo is a college student and works at a bar at night. He lives with a feeling of torpor, insensitive to life, friends and relationships. One night, Ryo piques the interest of the pimp of a male brothel and she invites him to work as a prostitute. He sees it as an opportunity to reframe his life.

Morinaka Ryo (Tōri Matsuzaka) studies Political Economy, is 21 years old, works in a bar and has contempt for love relationships. He thinks every woman is the same. Until then, he didn’t know. But his mother was a prostitute.

“Women are boring.”

Mido Shizuka (Sei Matobu) is a pimp and has arranged a meeting at the bar with Ryo-kun’s best friend, Tajima Shinya (Yû Koyanagi). She ran a men’s brothel called Le Club Passion.

“I’ll be waiting outside when you leave.”

Arriving at the bar, Shizuka-san feels a mysterious charm in Ryo-kun’s straight and severe manner. Despite being invited by his friend, she completely loses interest in Shinya, invites Ryo-kun to her house and asks to see him have sex with another woman. So she could evaluate his performance as a lover.

Call Boy: japanese movie review

Morinaka Ryo (Tōri Matsuzaka) and Sakura (Ami Tomite) getting ready to have sex in front of Mido Shizuka (Sei Matobu) in Call Boy.

Ryo-kun doesn’t quite understand what’s going on, since it was Shizuka-san’s idea, he thought it should be her. But, he agrees to have sex with the girl he just met, Sakura (Ami Tomite).

After watching the complete lovemaking, Shizuka-san, the pimp, doesn’t approve of Ryo-kun’s performance with Sakura. But, Sakura, the sexual partner, suggests that he deserves a chance.

“You barely passed. You can thank Sakura.”

Shizuka-san explains that this was the test of passion and asks if he wants to prostitute himself for her, at Le Club Passion, where women, usually older, meet younger men.

“Sell my body?”

The clients of the Le Club Passion brothel were refined women who sometimes just wanted a date to the theater or dinner.

After accepting the offer, Ryo-kun learns the work schedule and is well received by the other male prostitutes at the brothel.

“I can tell you will be quite popular.”

The first program that Ryo-kun did was a success, although he didn’t quite understand why, as the meeting ended abruptly. Until now, he’d thought all women wanted sex. Most even wanted to. But, not always on the first date.

“Miss Hiromi has made her reservation again. Same place. Same time.”

As time goes by prostituting himself, Ryo-kun learns to open his heart to his partners, be aware of women’s signals, be less inelegant and discovers that what he considers boring is, in fact, wonderful. By getting involved with the world of brothel customers, he matures a lot and learns that there are several ways to give and receive sexual pleasure.

Reviewing Call Boy: japanese movie about male maturation

Morinaka Ryo (Tōri Matsuzaka) walking down the street to attend a customer at Le Club Passion in Call Boy.

From my point of view, Ryo-kun thinking women were boring was the defense mechanism. People fear what they don’t understand. This misunderstanding of the female universe makes men behave in a very childish way and this childishness manifests itself in several ways.

The variety of female desires is endless, unpredictable, and each woman, in her own way, pursues this desire. Fortunately, he got over the panic that I think a lot of men have and started wanting to get to know women better.

He begins to see the beauty in the normal behavior of women and despite receiving criticism from friends, for being a male escort, it was this work that was allowing him to know a little more about himself.

Reviewing Call Boy: life in prostitution

Ryo-kun gains a lot of popularity among the brothel’s clients and finally finds some purpose in life. As a result, he ends up being careless with other areas of his personal life, such as studies and friends.

It made me understand that every kind of work is work. Sometimes we think of prostitution as something more or less recreational. But it is not. If you don’t stay focused on your main goal, you could end up staying forever in a job that should be momentary. Just like any other temp job.

In particular, in Ryo-kun’s case, he was already being apathetic towards his best friends and political economy school. So perhaps the right thing was to continue prostituting himself at Le Club Passion. Because, it was very beneficial for him as a human being.

Why you should watch Call Boy

I won’t leave Call Boy ending explained or a download link here, but I think for anyone working in the sexual entertainment business, this Japanese movie will be cathartic. I myself have heard many stories similar to those portrayed in the film.

I also believe that with Ryo-kun’s diverse experiences, many people can open their minds to different ways of loving, receiving and giving pleasure. So, don’t be afraid or ashamed to express yourself between 4 walls.
