Emoto Akira was born November 3, 1948 in Tokyo. He is affiliated with Knockout. In 1976, he founded the Tokyo Dry Cell Theatre Company and served as its leader. He won the Best Actor Award at the 22nd Japan Academy Film Prize for his role in the 1998 film Kanzo Sensei. He also won the Best Supporting Actor Award at the 34th Japan Academy Film Prize for his role in the 2010 film Villain, among other film awards. He has appeared in many stage productions and TV dramas in addition to films. In 2011, he was awarded the Medal with Purple Ribbon. In 2015, he won the Acting Award at the 41st Broadcasting Culture Foundation Awards. In 2019, he was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette. He has appeared in films such as “Tora-san’s Love of the Hydrangea” (1982), NHK Taiga drama “Yatsudai Shogun Yoshimune” (1995), “Unagi” (1997), NHK Taiga drama “Komyo ga Tsuji” (2006), “Yajikita Dochu Teresuko” (2007), “Humanoid Monster Bem” (2011), “Tonbi” (2013), “Kishibe no Tabi” (2015), “Shin Godzilla” (2016), NHK Taiga drama “Saigo Don” (2018), “Absolute Zero: Undercover Investigation of Unprevented Crimes” (2020), “The Barber Shop with a View of the Sea” (2022), and “Chushingura: A Substitute” (2024). In November 1981, he married the late actor Kazue Kakubari. His eldest son is actor Tasuku Emoto. His second son is actor Tokio Emoto.
