The Liar and His Lover

If you want to read my review of The Liar and His Lover, read this post. In カノジョは嘘を愛しすぎてる, Aki is a hugely successful composer who gave a false name when he met Riko, a fan, without realizing that he would fall in love with her.

Aki Ogasawara (Takeru Satoh) composed all the CRUDE PLAY’s songs, almost like a ghostwriter, but he received credit for all the songs he created.

“Back then, I was upset all the time.”

Riko Koeda (Sakurako Ohara) was a fan of the band. Without knowing who Aki was, she passed by him and heard a passionate new song.

“It gave me chills.”

Aki didn’t like how his life and the music industry were. So, even though he had everything financially, he felt increasingly empty, until he met Riko.

Aki loved music and was a genius who simply decided to write songs for his school friends. However, he gave up being the bass player.

“And before I knew it, we had it all.”

He felt very bad because the record companies only thought about selling and the public didn’t value quality compositions.

“It’s turning music into something to be wasted.”

Aki had everything, but he was happier when he was poor. He didn’t have any of the things he really wanted to have, until he met Riko.

“Do you believe in love at first sight?”

Aki admitted to joking, made up a false story and name, but upon hearing him hum, Riko was already in love. Even though he said he was a nobody

“And yet, she told me: I will protect you.”

What Aki didn’t know was that Riko loved to sing, had a band and the manager who exploited him, who was the source of much of his anguish, discovered her talent.

The Liar and His Lover review: ghost-writer

A ghostwriter is a person hired to produce a literary work in various genres, for example, a scientific article or a song.

One of the most common contractual clauses that a ghostwriter must accept is that they must never reveal their authorship and give up any copyright earnings.

Many of today’s most popular singers and songwriters began their careers as ghostwriters for stars who have been around for a long time.

Why you should watch The Liar and His Lover

I won’t leave The Liar and His Lover ending explained or a download link here, but This Japanese film is almost a musical, full of cool songs.

And even though it was made in 2013, the script already addressed an increasingly obvious problem in music, its commodification and depreciation.
