If you want to read review of The Legacy of Dr. Death: Black File, read this post. In ドクター・デスの遺産 BLACK FILE, two detectives, Asuka and Hayato, try to uncover who “Dr. Death” is, a doctor responsible for 35 deaths of terminally ill patients.
Hayato Inukai (Gō Ayano) is a police inspector, widower and single father of Sayaka, an 11-year-old girl who suffers from renal failure and needs a transplant.
“If my kidney could be transplanted…”
Asuka Takachiho (Keiko Kitagawa) is the most intelligent investigator in the police force. Focused and attentive, she didn’t let a child’s complaint go unnoticed.
“He said his father was killed by an evil doctor.”
The cameras confirmed that young Daichi’s testimony was solid, but his mother, Saeko, seemed to be hiding something. As if she was covering for the suspicious doctor.

The autopsy confirmed the poisoning, and during her testimony, Saeko admitted to having received a doctor at home who would put an end to her husband’s suffering.
“He asked me to make him die in peace. My mind went crazy.”
Clandestine euthanasia is murder. Asuka and Hayato needed to identify the doctor and bring him to justice for his crime.
“His name is Doctor Death.”
Hearing the name shocked investigators because if he had a nickname he was known by the population and there were more victims.
Since cremation is widely used in Japan, it wouldn’t be possible to perform an autopsy on people who died with the same characteristics.
“Yes. If the corpse were cremated, everything would burn to nothing.”
During their investigation, Hayato and Asuka discovered a website, the killer doctor’s modus operandi, and videos he made showing his victims’ gratitude.
“The perpetrator is just a pathetic criminal taking advantage of people’s weakness.”
The number of victims kept growing more and more and to their shock Hayato’s daughter, Sayaka, who was terminal, contacted Dr. Death.

Euthanasia is the painless killing of a patient who has no chance of recovery, and this procedure can only be performed by a medical team.
When I watched this Japanese film that tells the story of Dr. Death, I couldn’t help but remember another serial killer who used the same method to kill, Charles Cullen.
Known as the Angel of Death, he was a nurse who confessed to having euthanized nearly 40 patients, under the pretense of ending the victims’ suffering.
