We Made A Beautiful Bouquet

If you want to read my We made a beautiful bouquet reviews, also known as Loved Like a Flower Bouquet, read this post. The film tells a bittersweet but realistic love story between a man and a woman, both 21 years old. They miss the last train at Meidaimae Station (明大前駅) in Tokyo and meet up there. From there, the relationship develops romantically between them.

Hachiya Kinu (Kasumi Arimura), 21 years old, college student and blogger. She is a rational person, who is not moved by silly things and who has already been disappointed in previous relationships.

“Guys who I think look cool and stable usually end up being men who look down on women.”

Yamane Mugi (Masaki Suda), 21 years old, college student and designer. He is a person who is suffering from physical and mental exhaustion, with not very good health and whose greatest pleasure in life in recent years has been finding himself, by accident, on Google Street View.

“I wonder if anything more exciting than that would ever happen to me again in my lifetime.”

In 2015, they end up bumping into each other at a train station, rushing to board the last train of the day. After missing the appointment, they decide, with another couple, to wait in a bar until dawn and there, the first subject in common between the two comes up in the conversation.

At all times, similar tastes, subjects and behaviors between Kinu-chan (Arimura Kasumi) and Mugi-kun (Suda Masaki) arise in everyday life. Both are voracious readers and consumers of various types of art. For example, exhibitions, films and music.

“I met a person who is always thinking the same thing as me.”

It was really nice to see the compatibility between them. Always talking as much as possible until the last train time. Until the two decide to declare themselves on the next date.

Even though Mugi-kun was the one who declared himself, I thought it was cool that Kinu-chan had the initiative too. Also, it was sweet and exciting of her to make it clear from the start that she enjoyed public declarations of affection.

Amid much excitement, they enjoy passion, sex and all the entertainment available indoors and outdoors. The falling in love phase is really good.

“We started our life together in an apartment on the Tamagawa River, a 30-minute walk from Choufu Station on the Keio Line.”

When both get a job, that distance from the Choufu station (調布駅) to the apartment becomes something very precious. Despite the time starting to get shorter, it was a moment just for them. Fundamental in any relationship between busy adults.

And up until this point in the relationship, they still had time to share hobbies, clean the house, take care of the adopted kitten and eat meals together. Because, the jobs were part-time.

I Fell in Love Like a Flower Bouquet reviews: the society pressures

Unfortunately, due to the circumstances of their adult lives, they are driven to take full-time jobs, Mugi-kun fails to follow his dream, shattering the beautiful dynamic of the relationship developed in the early years.

“It’s just, our lifestyles don’t match.”

The two continue to pursue happiness in their relationship. But with completely different approaches. This increases distance and disagreements. In the beginning, they spoke the same language, now, they see themselves as strangers from completely different worlds. I can relate to that and it broke my heart to watch.

“It’s hard to be normal.”

So, they are faced with the need to make choices and take drastic attitudes, which will determine the future of the relationship.

We Made a Beautiful Bouquet reviews: the soundtrack

Yamane Mugi (Masaki Suda) and Hachiya Kinu (Kasumi Arimura) sitting at a table and sharing headphones while watching a clip on their cell phone in We Made a Beautiful Bouquet.

The soundtrack has wonderful melodies, some with several different arrangements, all acoustic and composed by Otomo Yoshihide.

My highlight goes to Hanataba mitai na koi wo shita (花束みたいな恋をした), Hanataba mitai na koi wo (花束みたいな恋を), Sora to kumo to koi (空と雲と恋), Umi to (海と), Owari no yokan (終わりの予感) and Deai (出会い), because they have beautiful guitar arrangements.

For me, it’s especially cruel to know that Owari no yokan means premonition of the end. So, you can imagine the mood when it was played in We Made a Beautiful Bouquet ending.

Why you should watch We Made a Beautiful Bouquet

I won’t leave We Made a Beautiful Bouquet ending explained or a download link here, but despite the sad and frustrating parts of the story, it was beautiful to see so much passion. They are very close to the reality faced by several couples who have an affective relationship in the adult stage of life.

I loved the mature way the protagonists handle the situation. Also, the soundtrack is wonderful and the scenes are shot in Tokyo. If you love music and are a lover of Japan, like me, you will like it too.
