Your Eyes Tell

If you want to read my Your Eyes Tell reviews, read this post. In きみの瞳が問いかけている, Akira Kashiwagi has lost her eyesight. On her way home, she would stop in a parking lot to listen to her favorite series with a very friendly gentleman. Unexpectedly, he resigned and was replaced by Rui Shinozaki, a former collector for the mafia trying to live a normal and legal life.

Akira Kashiwagi (Yuriko Yoshitaka) lost her eyesight and her parents in a car accident. Therefore, she is trying to adapt to the circumstances. During the process, she met a gentleman who liked the same series as she did and had no problem narrating the footage so she could form the scene in her head.

“We always watch TV together. Is he sick?”

Rui Antonio Shinozaki (Ryûsei Yokohama) left the ring out of shame at having used his skills to earn money working for the mafia. So he was living a very lonely life with two jobs. Therefore, having a company to talk to, even on a weekly basis, has become something very valuable.

“It’s raining. Come watch TV.”

One night, Akira was nearly run over in the parking lot and sprained her ankle. Rui realized that he needed to accompany her to the hospital and help her get home. Due to the fact that she is blind, Akira also needed help with some things around the house and this situation opened the door for them to become more than just series mates.

Your Eyes Tell reviews: the little things

On the way to Akira’s house there is a very long staircase and she was having difficulty walking because of the pain and the immobilization done in the hospital. Under the circumstances, Rui, trusting in his good physical shape, offers to carry her to the front door.

“Climb on my back.”

Obviously, Akira was embarrassed. But, she had no choice. And that was an opportunity they had to further strengthen the bonds that had been forming. Akira can compensate for his lack of eyesight and use her other senses to learn more about Rui.

“I already know a lot about you. From your voice and your manner.”

As a thank you for the company, help getting home and another favor she asked, when they arrived, Akira offered tickets to a jazz concert for Rui. But, he didn’t listen to music regularly and he didn’t even have friends to frequent that kind of environment.

“I was given a present. Take a friend. Don’t you have any friends? Shall we go together?”

Both were very excited about the event. They went to jazz and then had dinner at a restaurant that Akira often went to, when her parents were alive and she could see. Nostalgia for the place made her open up about her vision loss in a more intimate way.

“Unfortunately, I can’t remember ordinary things. Like which flowers bloomed in my backyard, or even my mother’s smile, or what my father looked like when he drank.”

Antagonically, Rui was still not ready and not comfortable to reveal anything about his complicated past. Breaking the intimate mood that had been created and giving Akira the wrong impression.

“You must be tired of me. Well, good night then.”

Rui realized the rudeness he had committed. So, he mustered up the strength to reveal some personal information. Including the bad things he did in the past, which he still carries the weight and shame of.

A while later, Akira asks Rui to take her somewhere because she needed to unwind, given the difficulties of life as a visually impaired person. Creating yet another opportunity for Rui to destroy the barrier around his shame.

“This place holds my oldest memory”

And so, Akira and Rui begin a very invigorating love relationship for both of them, in their respective stages of life. However, as they got to know each other’s past better, Rui discovered that he was responsible for Akira’s loss of vision. With that, he is devastated and will do whatever is necessary, legally or illegally, to scrape together the money to pay for her eye operation.

Your Eyes Tell movie: Ouroboros gang

Kyosuke Sakuma (Keita Machida), leader of the gang, talking to Rui Shinozaki (Ryûsei Yokohama), who was his ex-campant in Your Eyes Tell.

Rui was being pestered by the head of the Ouroboros gang, Kyosuke Sakuma (Keita Machida), to get him back to serving as a henchman. That was what he least wanted to do.

But what choice would he have to scrape together so much money and so little time and pay for Akira’s eye operation. All he could think was that he needed to make amends for his mistake, even if he had to make more mistakes. Despite that, Your Eyes Tell ending is beautiful.

I can’t imagine the difficulties a person faces with the loss of one of their senses. Mostly the vision. Probably the most important sense of a person’s independence.

Akira was constantly harassed by her boss at work. But there was little she could do, considering how difficult it would be for her to find another job. Until the day he totally crosses the line and if it weren’t for Rui, Akira would be raped.

Finding a job must be just one of the countless difficulties that a person with a disability must face in life in search of their happiness and personal fulfillment. Even so, if you’re asking yourself: does Your Eyes Tell have a happy ending? Yes!

Your Eyes Tell: happy or sad ending

I’m not gonna let Your Eyes Tell ending explained. But, a lot of valuable messages are conveyed in this Japanese film. The main thing is that we need to give more value to the simple and common things in life.

Because, they are the ones that really matter at the end of the day and, if we don’t pay attention while we’re living, after losing them, we won’t even have enough memories to remember.
