If you want to read my review of Hirugao, read this post. In 昼顔, three years after the events of the series, Sawa is divorced and living in Mihama on the coast of Japan where, coincidentally, Kitano Yuichiro went to give a lecture.
Sawa Sasamoto (Aya Ueto) got divorced because she broke the contract. She lost her family, her job and was abandoned by her few friends.
“Falling in love with a married man was a shame.”
Yuichiro Kitano (Takumi Saito) lived with his wife, Noriko (Ayumi Ito), 2 hours away from Mihama and visited the city to give a talk about fireflies.
“Actually, it would be great if he died. That way, I wouldn’t miss him so much.”
Sawa and Yuichiro were shaken by having seen each other, trying to meet but failing and they wouldn’t have peace of mind until that happened.
Hirugao: japanese movie review

In the Mihama Natural Forest there was an area designated as a firefly reserve and Sawa had no doubt that she would find Yuichiro there.
“From that day on, we met every week.”
Obviously, Yuichiro’s wife would notice the abrupt change in his daily behavior and every weekly trip to Mihama.
“Isn’t today your day off?”
And, because everything that Sawa and he were experiencing was forbidden by contract, the passion burned even more intensely.
“After all, if we continue with this it will grow out of control.”
Before Sawa and Yuichiro could put an end to everything, Noriko found out and wouldn’t believe a word they said.
“You’re just two filthy cheaters.”
Noriko even offered forgiveness if this didn’t happen again, but Yuichiro chose Sawa over her and given such a choice, the consequences would be proportional.
Hirugao: japanese expression

In Japanese, 平日 (heijitsu) means weekday, 昼顔 (hirugao) means something like afternoon beauty and 妻 (Tsuma) means wife.
This Japanese expression connotes that the wife has an extramarital relationship on weekday afternoons while the husband works.
And since the Japanese love to omit words, the expression “Heijitsu Hirugao Tsuma” is referred to simply as “Hirugao”.
Why you should watch Hirugao

I won’t leave Hirugao ending explained or a download link here, but if you liked the drama, of course you should watch this Japanese film.
Another seal of quality for this Japanese cinematographic work is that Netflix has included it in its film catalog worldwide.
