If you want to read my review of Just Only Love, read this post. In 愛がなんだ, Teruko is unable to balance the relationship she has with Mamoru in a healthy way, even putting her job and friendships at risk.
Teruko Yamada (Yukino Kishii) is 28 years old and works in an office. When she fell in love, she started acting careless at work and with her best friends too.
“Listen, if you always act subservient, he’s going to keep taking advantage of you.”
Mamoru Tanaka (Ryo Narita) finds it very convenient to have Teruko around. However, he refuses to take it to the next level and have a serious relationship.
“It seemed like I wouldn’t be part of his future after all.”
Teruko’s best friends are Yoko and Nakahara (Ryuya Wakaba). Over time, they got tired of warning that the relationship wasn’t balanced and decided to move away. If losing her friends wasn’t enough, now she’s been fired for no longer being able to perform her duties with quality.

Teruko fell in love with Mamoru at first sight, at a mutual friend’s party. Since then, she did everything she could to always be available.
“I got used to killing time at the office so I could be there immediately whenever he called me.”
Not only was she always available, she also did much more than he asked. For example, dinner and cleaning, creating an even more unbalanced relationship.
“He had a fever of almost 100 degrees. I couldn’t just leave.”
Yoko was Teruko’s best friend and she was very irritated by Mamoru’s behavior. Especially since Teruko and Mamoru weren’t even boyfriend and girlfriend.
“And stop wasting your time on that Little Lord.”
Teruko started to be completely careless about other parts of her personal life. Her obsession was so big that she ended up getting fired from her old job and abandoning an interview for her new one just because Mamoru called and asked her out.
“So I don’t really care about anything except the person I’m in love with.”
Eventually, Mamoru became so suffocated that he kicked Teruko out of his house and didn’t get in touch for months. Until one day he invited her to drink. But, when Teruko got there, he was with Sumire Tsukakoshi (Noriko Eguchi), leaving her without understanding anything and completely without reaction.
Just Only Love movie review: imbalance
The film is quite hyperbolic. But, I think it’s not necessary to say how wrong this type of behavior is in any type of relationship. There is no good fruit in imbalance.
I believe that in a relationship, both parties are there to “serve.” However, this level of availability must be in line with the level of commitment and trust that the partner places in you.
I’ve been in a relationship where I was asked for more commitment and servitude at the same time that she didn’t trust me with anything. It was the worst relationship I’ve ever had.
Why you should watch Just Only Love
I won’t leave Just Only Love ending explained or a download link here, but this is a perfect Japanese movie to “open the viewer’s eyes”. This goes for both sides of the scale in your relationship.
It can help one partner understand how harmful this behavior is and, for the other, how nice the person they are with is and the risk of losing them to someone who recognizes their efforts more.
