If you want to read my review of Sweet Rain – The Precision of the Agent of Death, read this post. In 死神の精度 – Shinigami no Seido, Chiba is a shinigami, a god of death, and his job consists of spending several days observing his next victim, Kazue Fujiki, before deciding whether she should die or not.
Chiba (Takeshi Kaneshiro) and the other shinigamis only control unexpected deaths. Illnesses, for example, are not part of a shinigami’s job and they also don’t commit murders.
“It’s our job to judge whether this life deserves to die.”
Kazue Fujiki (Manami Konishi) is 27 years old and works as an office assistant. She has already tried to take her own life because she believes people don’t even notice her existence.
“There is nothing good in my life.”
Kazue and Chiba’s paths cross when the god of death is tasked with observing and interacting with her. In order to decide, within 7 days, whether the execution should continue or not, giving her more time to live.
Sweet Rain: japanese movie review

Chiba arranged a subterfuge to meet Kazue, who felt so lonely that dinner in the company of death ended up being a lovely night for her.
“Thank you very much for tonight. I had a lot of fun.”
Almost always, Chiba continued with the mission of taking human life and, faced with Kazue so sad and hopeless, it didn’t seem like this time would be different.
I understand. But, no need to worry. Soon you will be at peace.
Some shinigami interacted with their victims so intimately that they even had sexual intercourse.
“You want them to go in a good mood.”
Chiba ends up being convinced by another shinigami to provide good times for Kazue.
A difficult task considering that Kazue lost her parents in a plane crash, her uncles, who adopted her, in a car accident and her boyfriend was murdered.
“When will I see some blue sky in my lifetime?”
Finally, the blue sky appeared to Kazue. On the last day of her life, she received an offer from a producer to record an album. With that, Chiba reverses Kazue’s execution and goes to judge the possible next victim.
“She hasn’t fulfilled her purpose yet.”
Decades later, Chiba and Kazue meet again. This time, the God of Death thought her purpose had been fulfilled. But, before taking Kazue’s life, they needed to have a conversation about the importance and meaning of life and death.
Sweet Rain: personification of death

Between the day I found the photo above and today, when I’m posting my review, this photo became quite bitter for me.
I lost someone close to me in a brutal and unexpected way. By coincidence, his profession was hairdressing.
So to think that he might have cut the hair of the shinigami who mowed him down is a sad fantasy, to say the least.
Why you should watch Sweet Rain

I won’t leave Sweet Rain ending explained or a download link here, but If you have lost a loved one or someone close to you, this Japanese film is a good recommendation. Several perspectives are exposed during the feature film.
In the first part of the film, the point of Death is addressed, or the Gods of Death. At the end, during the long conversation between Kazue and Chiba, it is “life’s” turn to speak out.
