Romance Doll

If you want to read my review of Romance Doll, read this post. In ロマンスドール, Tetsuo and Sonoko fell in love under awkward circumstances, and because of that, everything was based on secrets and lies that would undermine the relationship.

Tetsuo Kitamura (Issei Takahashi) started working in a sex doll factory 10 years ago and based on a big lie, he fell in love with Sonoko.

“The more I think about it, the more I can’t tell Sonoko about this job”

Sonoko Kitamura (Yu Aoi) worked as a life model for sculptors and painters. She believed had fallen in love with and married a plastic surgeon.

“She thought she was helping people who lost their breasts.”

Tetsuo was working on a realistic sex doll project, striving for perfection. But he hadn’t touched a woman in three years, so he pretended to be a doctor and lied to Sonoko.

Faced with the factory owner’s harsh criticism about the lack of authenticity of the final result, Tetsuo and his manager had an idea.

“How about making dolls out of the real human body?”

The manager was a man of a certain age, Tetsuo had ended his relationship years ago and no one was sexually active. So they decided to lie and use live models.

“This looks too suspicious.”

And that’s how Tetsuo met Sonoko. By lying about revolutionary silicone implants, he could actually take the mold and feel the texture of her body.

“Can I have my assistant, Kitamura, touch your breasts?”

Tetsuo fell in love with her beauty, her boldness in accepting the proposal and touching her breasts was heaven on earth with a cherry on top flavor.

“It was the first time in my life that I’d ever tell someone how I felt. And it’s probably the last.”

But it was all based on lies. Sonoko thought she was helping a doctor and she was also keeping secrets that would undermine their relationship over the years.

Romance Doll review: the crazy sex industry

After inflatable sex dolls, latex sex dolls appeared. They were not very durable and difficult to clean.

That’s why PVC sex dolls appeared. They were resistant to surface dirt and durable. However, the texture of their skin still felt like rubber.

Silicone sex dolls have a completely different texture, but nothing is really like human skin and the consistency of the human body.

Why you should watch Romance Doll

I won’t leave Romance Doll ending explained or a download link here, but this Japanese film shows a bit of the sexual eccentricity present in a society that has reached alarming levels of emotional distance.

And like many other japanese movies, it is very educational. Regardless of what you think of the ending, no relationship based on lies goes well.
