Missing

If you want to read my review of Missing, read this post. In ミッシング, Miu was only 6 years old when she went out with her uncle to play in the park, 300m from home, and never came back.

Saori Morishita (Satomi Ishihara) and Yutaka (Munetaka Aoki) were Miu’s parents, and for the past 3 months they had been trying to find their daughter.

“We are looking for information. We need help!”

Sunada (Tomoya Nakamura) was a journalist facing a huge ethical impasse: help by reporting the truth or guarantee the station’s ratings with sensationalism.

“Unlike local stations like ours, larger stations have a lot of stories to cover.”

As time passed, little Miu-chan’s disappearance lost space in the news and, consequently, the people’s attention, leaving her parents desperate.

Missing: japanese movie review

Those who wanted to help didn’t know how to do it. Which often made all the pain Saori and Yutaka experienced worse.

“I recently met a great psychic. Do you want me to introduce you?”

Sunada worked at TV Shizuoka and the tactic adopted was to draw attention to rumors involving Saori’s younger brother, Keigo.

“But on social media, right? We don’t have any proof?”

Unaware of the broadcaster’s sensationalist bias, Saori was in favor of the interview because Keigo was the last person who had contact with Miu-chan.

“He’s very suspicious. Could he be involved?”

Obviously, Internet moralists wouldn’t miss the opportunity to keep their mouths shut. All the stress involved can shake any relationship, even between people who just want to help.

“In the end, we’re just gossip to you.”

And on the brink of despair, pain, guilt and anger, this family on the edge has to deal day after day with the frustration of not having any news about their daughter.

Missing review: It’s all for the like

Satomi Ishihara as Saori Morishita and Tomoya Nakamura as Sunada in Missing japanese movie review

I don’t want to sound romantic or naive, especially because I used to work for the third largest broadcasting company on the planet. I know how things work.

But it’s amazing how everything is fake on television. The only truth is the search for ratings, which today has become the like.

It’s all about money and power, I know, and nothing will change that. However, there are certain pains and vulnerabilities in a person that should be respected.

Why you should watch Missing

I won’t leave Missing ending explained or a download link here and I don’t usually like Satomi Ishihara’s work. I mean, the scripts.

But the fact is that she gives an amazing performance in this film. I’ll definitely watch more of her movies besides the Live Action of Shingeki no Kyojin.
