If you want to read my review of 18×2 Beyond Youthful Days, read this post. In 青春18×2 君へと続く道, Jimmy loses his job and decides to go to Japan and look for Ami, an old love he never revealed.
Jimmy (Greg Hsu), 18 years ago, started a gaming company with a college dorm friend, but was ousted by shareholders.
“What is this? It’s my company!”
Ami (Kaya Kiyohara), 18 years ago, lost her wallet while backpacking, got the job where she became friends with Jimmy, and eventually returned to Japan.
“I can’t wait to see you after you make your dream come true.”
18 years later, at 36 years old and with a shattered dream, Jimmy decides to leave Taiwan, go to Japan alone and finally tell Ami how much he loved her.
18×2 Beyond Youthful Days review: 18 years ago

Ami and Jimmy first met 18 years ago, working at the same karaoke bar, while he was doing college prep and she was backpacking in Taiwan.
“Jimmy, show her the guest room and teach her what to do.”
At that time, Ami was backpacking for the same reason Jimmy is now. To evaluate her life and see if she was on the right path.
“I wanted to see different places and people to make sure I was okay with who I was.”
During that time, they became especially close. Jimmy learned Japanese to communicate better with her, and Ami learned Mandarin to fit in more with the group.
“Have more initiative. You never know when she will go away.”
During the trip in Japan, he told Yukiko (Haru Kuroki) that the reason they never got together back then was because their mutual love had never really existed.
And after Ami returned to Japan, except for a few postcards, they had not kept in touch at all. So he didn’t know if he would actually meet her.
“Even if I don’t see her, I want to see the city she grew up in.”
But instead of heading straight to Ami’s hometown, he zigzagged through Japan. Getting lost while finding himself and getting to know several interesting people.
18×2 Beyond Youthful Days review: get lost to find yourself

In my life’s journeys I’ve learned that going through them alone is really cool and the fact of not having a goal and not knowing what’s going to happen makes everything more interesting.
The cities and people we meet on a trip leave something in our hearts. Friends we don’t see again, places we don’t visit again.
I hope we leave something in their hearts and in the landscapes we passed through.
