If you want to read my review of Samurai X – The Movie, read this post. In るろうに剣心, the wanderer Kenshin Himura wanted to leave behind his past full of violence, but he would have to continue wielding his sword to maintain peace.
Kaoru Kamiya (Emi Takei) wanted to bring to justice the murderer who was tarnishing her family’s name, fighting style and claimed to be Battousai.
“The decree forbids swords and you have one. You’re the Battousai!”
Kenshin Himura (Takeru Satoh) had been wandering around Japan for 10 years. Since the beginning of the new era, he no longer worked as a hitokiri for the Emperor.
“I’m a wanderer. Just a wandering swordsman, that’s all.”
His katana had a reversed blade, incapable of killing, but Kenshin was intrigued by the fake Hitoriki Battousai who was murdering police officers.
Samurai X – The Movie: japanese movie review

The only one in the police force who was sure that the killer was a fraud was Captain Hajime Saitou (Yosuke Eguchi).
“That’s not Battousai’s style.”
10 years ago, Kenshin and Udo Jin-e, the Fake Battousai, had met and by a twist of fate Jin-e survived. Since then, he has been searching for Kenshin.
Without a shogun to defend, Udo Jin-e became a henchman for an opium dealer, who had enslaved Megumi Takani (Yū Aoi) and forced her to learn how to produce it.
“That woman has the method of producing opium in her head.”
Jin-e was chasing Megumi, who had escaped from captivity, and Kenshin had resolved the misunderstanding with Kaoru.
“He claims to be from my school. He kills people and leaves letters.”
By chance, Kaoru crossed paths with Fake Battousai, recognized him from the sketch, and sought justice.
Kenshin saw no other alternative and saved Kaoru’s life, but with that, the fake Battousai discovered that he was alive and would only stop when he killed the real one.
Samurai X – The Movie review: Bakumatsu

The Bakumatsu lasted just over 20 years, a chaotic time at the end of the Edo Period. Japan was opening up to the world, but there were those who opposed it.
You could call them the Imperialists. They were against the Western model and advocated the return of the monarchy with the emperor in power.
In the conflicts between the various factions, there were the Emperor’s Hitokiris and the Shinsengumi, at service of the shogunate.
Why you should watch Samurai X – The First Live Action

I won’t leave Samurai X – The Movie ending explained or a download link here, but the Samurai X saga was one of the best adaptations made in the entire history of Live Actions.
That’s just my opinion, right? Also, you know a little about the historical context of Japan during the Edo Period, Shogunate and Bakumatsu.
