Faceless

If you want to read my review of Faceless, read this post. In 正体, Keiichi was on death row for triple homicide, but he managed to escape detention and was going to do everything to prove his innocence.

Sayaka Ando (Riho Yoshioka) was a journalist who worked and offered shelter to Keiichi. Even though she recognized him, she knew that justice was flawed.

“I’m sure it wasn’t you. Run away, Kaburagi-kun.”

Mr. Ando (Tetsushi Tanaka) was Sayaka’s father. A lawyer who was responding to a false accusation of harassment.

“I never had any real dealings with Keiichi. But my daughter still has faith in him.”

Months before meeting Sayaka, Keiichi Kaburagi (Ryusei Yokohama) had cut himself to get medical treatment. Inside the ambulance, he attacked the police officers and fled.

118 days after the escape, Keiichi’s name was Benzo and he was a worker. In his spare time, he studied law on his own to prove his innocence.

“They said the reward reached three million.”

180 days after the escape, Keiichi’s name was Nasu and he was a writer. It was while working as a freelancer that he met Sayaka.

“Six of the articles he wrote are among the ten most read.”

Sayaka saw Keiichi without money to sleep in the cyber cafe and offered to help. Keiichi felt after a long time that someone trusted him and recognized his talents.

“Another thing, you can stay here until you find another place.”

Sayaka recognized Keiichi without a mask, but was unsure about the accusation because her father was found guilty of a false accusation of harassment.

“Now the public is constantly attacking him, calling him a perverted lawyer.”

Sayaka believed in her father, believed in Keiichi’s innocence and would do everything she could to help him, but the police discovered that they lived together.

Faceless japanese movie ending: eyewitness is unreliable

Takayuki Yamada as Seigo Matanuki in Faceless

What we know from psychologists and scientists is that eyewitness testimony is the least reliable form of evidence.

Especially in a forensic investigation that could lead an innocent person to lose the most valuable thing they have: their freedom.

When faced with something traumatic or extraordinary, such as a homicide or a UFO, the witness can easily be fooled by emotions and senses.

I won’t leave Faceless ending explained or a download link here, but this Japanese movie brings up an important discussion for Japan lovers, like me.

No country, no matter how incredible, is perfect. Whenever I talk about my wonderful experience in Japan, I always point out that I also have some criticisms.

I really feel that you will like this one. So I decided to do this Shōtai review. Go ahead, immerse yourself in the story, the environment and the soundtrack.

And come back later to tell me what you think in the comments. This Japanese film draws attention to the lack of credibility of eyewitness testimony.
