Bullet Train Explosion

If you want to read my review of Bullet Train Explosion, read this post. In 新幹線大爆破, Kazuya Takaichi found himself responsible for managing the total panic on the bullet train sabotaged by a terrorist with a bomb.

Kazuya Takaichi (Tsuyoshi Kusanagi) was a conductor responsible for communication between the locomotive and the train, management and assistance to passengers.

“Although everyone has their own reason for embarking, we all travel together”

Yuichi Kasagi (Takumi Saito) was the head of the General Control Center for bullet train operations in Tokyo, the final destination of the Hayabusa 60.

“Passenger safety comes first. Get to work!”

After the shinkansen left Shin-Aomori Station, a terrorist called the JR East Call Center and said he had planted bombs on two trains.

To prove he was telling the truth, the terrorist placed the other bomb on a freight train in Aomori that exploded as scheduled.

“This bomb will detonate at a speed of less than 5 km/h.”

Chika Matsumoto (Rena Nōnen aka Non) was the driver of the Hayabusa 60 train, which was traveling from Shin-Aomori to Tokyo.

“The bomb will detonate if the train’s speed is less than 100 km/h.”

Kasagi informed Takaichi and his second in command, Keiji Fujii (Kanata Hosoda), that they couldn’t speak the truth and must avoid panic at all costs.

“We believe there is a bomb in 5060B as well.”

Kasagi also informed Matsumoto of the initial plan of operation to prevent the second bomb from exploding until the suspicions were confirmed.

“Disable ATC, keep the train at 120 km/h and go straight through Hachinohe.”

The Automatic Train Control brakes if the maximum speed limit is exceeded, which near stations is around 75km/h.

“I want 100 billion yen.”

In a very controversial move, the government decided not to negotiate, inform the passengers and open an investigation in the remaining 5:30h, heading at reduced speed straight to Tokyo.

Bullet Train Explosion: Hikari to Hayabusa

In the 1975 version, the Shinkansen, Japanese bullet train, was the Hikari 109, with top speed of 285 km/h. In the 2025, is the Hayabusa 60 with top speed of 400 km/h.

But the maximum speed was limited to 320 km/h (200 mph), in order to provide greater comfort for passengers who may be standing or sitting while eating.

And if you’re going from Osaka to Tokyo, for example, I suggest you sit by the left-hand window for a glimpse of Mount Fuji.
