Lumberjack the Monster

If you want to read my review of Lumberjack the Monster, read this post. In 怪物の木こり, Akira Ninomiya is a psychopath who does whatever it takes to achieve his goals. What he didn’t foresee was becoming the target of a serial killer.

Akira Ninomiya (Kazuya Kamenashi) was raised in an orphanage and became a renowned lawyer. He had relationships with and murdered whoever he needed to succeed.

“They’ll think you got into an accident alone.”

Ranko Toshiro (Arai Nanao) was an inspector at the Analysis Center, graduated from MIT and helped the police hunt down the serial killer who was on the loose.

“The victims must have some relationship. It’s up to us to figure out which.”

The only relationship the victims had was that they were all raised in orphanages. Therefore, Akira was next on the list.

Reviewing Lumberjack the Monster: the chosen ones

In addition to being raised in orphanages, all of the victims had accumulated many enemies during their lives.

“Monsters of your kind deserve to die.”

All the other victims appeared to be typical psychopaths and had their brains removed from the braincase.

Akira, for example, advocated covering up experiments with living humans that Sugitani (Shota Sometani) was conducting at his family’s hospital.

“We psychopaths are the chosen ones.”

Akira also pretended to like Emi Kagemi (Riho Yoshioka) and murdered her father to inherit her family’s law firm.

“I don’t accept the way my father died. He was strong-willed and intelligent. He would never commit suicide.

Akira discovered that he had a neural chip and he would have to discover what the chip changed in his psychopathic personality.

Typically, a psychopath like Akira thinks carefully about every step. Including how to take revenge without leaving any clues, but the serial killer found him first.

Reviewing Lumberjack the Monster: modern lobotomy

Lobotomy involves cutting some connections in the brain and was widely used in patients with schizophrenia with the aim of “changing the patient’s sick personality”.

In the beginning, neural chips were developed to stimulate paralyzed limbs and help disabled people regain their movement.

However, with technological advances, it would be possible to control emotions and transform people into completely different human beings.

I won’t leave Lumberjack the Monster ending explained or a download link here, but if, like me, you like films that address the theme of psychopathy, this Japanese movie is a good choice.

I always find it intriguing how they see themselves as the chosen, more advanced human beings and sometimes gods.
