If you want to read my review of Asako I & II, read this post. In 寝ても覚めても, Asako fell in love with Baku, a man so free that one day he simply disappeared. Years later, she meets Ryohei, a man with a completely different personality than Baku. But, with the identical face.
Baku (Masahiro Higashide) is the son of a cereal producer from Hokkaido and works as a DJ for a living and lives alone above his best friend’s house, Nobuyuki Okazaki (Daichi Watanabe).
“It’s ok. I’ll come back even if I’m late. So, don’t worry.”
Asako Izumiya (Erika Karata) left Osaka for Tokyo and got a job at a coffee shop after Baku disappeared.
“Baku said he was going to buy shoes and never came back.”
They fell in love at first sight after bumping into each other at a photo exhibition. Asako was completely in love with Baku’s way of being. But, he was detached and one day he never returned home nor made any kind of contact with his acquaintances.
Asako I and II: japanese movie review

Asa-chan’s best friend, Shima Haruyo (Sairi Ito), from the first moment, tried to warn her about the risks of this relationship. Haruyo thought that Baku was forcing an involvement and hadn’t really fallen in love.
“Asako, you shouldn’t be with him. He’s a heartbreaker.”
Unfortunately, her friend’s predictions were right, Baku had a free and detached spirit. Sometimes, she would disappear for an entire night and only appear in the morning. Until, one day, he never came back.
Asako was forced to move on with her life and moved to Tokyo. There, she got a job at a coffee shop.
Ryohei Maruko (Masahiro Higashide) received a job proposal and moved to Tokyo, there he met Asako, who asked a series of questions and was absolutely sure he was Baku.
“What the…now you’re scaring me.”
Since the coffee shop Asako worked at provided services for Ryohei’s company, whenever there was a meeting, they couldn’t avoid having to talk to each other from time to time.
“You’re interested in me, aren’t you? You sensed something when we first met.”
Ryohei ends up falling in love with Asako and she can’t help it, in part, due to the great resemblance he has to Baku’s features. With that, they start a really cool relationship.
When everything was going well between the two, behold, one day, Baku reappears in front of Asako. He invites her to drop everything and run away with him, abandoning Ryohei. Now, how will things go between Asako, Baku and Ryohei?
Reviewing Asako I and II: doppelgänger

I don’t know if you’ve seen it. But, very popular memes circulate with Keanu Reeves and other celebrities who would be immortal. Because, there are very old photos taken of other people that are identical to them.
I also remember that The Vampire Diaries series is also wrapped around the plot between two people who are identical. But, they lived in different centuries.
Doppelgänger is a person that has no biological connection. That is, this does not apply to twins and other family members. There are those who say that the phenomenon is a harbinger of bad luck because one would be the evil brother of the other.
