If you want to read my review of Kasane, read this post. In 累 ―かさね―, Kasane Fuchi is an excellent actress who had her face disfigured. Nina Tanzawa is a terrible actress with a wonderful face. They decide to make a pact and switch faces to achieve their goals.
Kasane Fuchi (Kyôko Yoshine) is an excellent actress with the ability to memorize any text just by listening to it once. But, she was ashamed of her face disfigured by a scar.
“They told me that seeing my face turned the sake sour.”
Nina Tanzawa (Tao Tsuchiya) is not a good actress. But, she is very beautiful. At first, she makes fun of the scar on Kasane’s face.
“You can’t use that thing to replace me.”
Kingo Habuta (Tadanobu Asano) knew Kasane’s mother Sukeyo Fuchi (Rei Dan) and the powers of red lipstick. He had the idea of exchanging the faces of the two to unite Nina’s beauty with Kasane’s talent and manage the career of the most famous actress in the world.

When she was a child, Kasane received lipstick from his mother, Sukeyo Fuchi, who was a very famous actress. But, she didn’t tell that if someone wore the lipstick and kissed another, the faces would be swapped.
“When it gets really hard use this lipstick. When you wear it on, whatever you wish for…”
Habuta-san knew Kasane’s mother and the powers that lipstick had. In exchange for her help he promised to guide Kasane’s career to success.
“From the depth of Hades, you’ll lead my daughter up to the spotlights.”
Nina wasn’t very comfortable with the idea. But, she accepted because she wanted to be famous and, from there, Habuta booked auditions where Kasane would audition using Nina’s face.
“Well, at the end of the day, I’ll be collecting the fame.”
For a while, Nina and Kasane get along well in this situation. They even do tests to find out what the limits of lipstick power are
“Darn, we swap back exactly after 12 hours.”
Kasane, living with Nina’s face, knows the joy of being able to perform in front of other people without being ashamed of her scar.
“I feel like this place is where I belong.”
After so many days with her face changed for hours and acting like someone else, Nina begins to have conflicts of identity and interests. As for Kasane, more and more, she doesn’t want to return Nina’s face and stop fulfilling her wishes.
Reviewing Kasane: beautiful and sleeping
I was shocked to learn that there is a disease where the patient has a neurological disorder that generates hypersomnia attacks and can sleep for days and even weeks.
Nina has Kleine-Levin syndrome, commonly known as sleeping beauty syndrome. So she slept for five months while Kasane wore her face.
With that, Nina completely lost her individuality and control of what Kasane did and how many hours she wore her face to live publicly.
Why you should watch Kasane
I won’t leave Kasane ending explained or a download link here, but If you’re a fan of Tao Tsuchiya, this Japanese film is a must. I’m always impressed by her versatility. Not just in terms of acting. But also in all other activities she performs very well.
The dance scene she does in the play Salomé is sensational. Tao Tsuchiya really is a very talented actress and I can’t wait to see her next project.
