Not Quite Dead Yet

If you want to read my review of Not Quite Dead Yet, read this post. In 一度死んでみた, Nanase hates everything about her father, a cold and distant workaholic scientist who is president of a large pharmaceutical company. All she wants most is for her father to drop dead and, unexpectedly, her dream comes true.

Hakaru Nobota (Shinichi Tsutsumi) was a scientist and, as such, turned every aspect of life into scientific experiments, ruining any fantasy of his daughter or romance of his wife.

“Stop playing in a band already. Join my company and succeed my research.”

Nanase Nobota (Suzu Hirose) is a third year student at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and is the lead singer of a death metal band called Soulz. She hates her father with all her might.

“That’s why I have no desire to join a company where a man like that is the president”

Nobota-san was developing one of mankind’s most desired medicines. An anti-aging drug. By accident, he also developed a drug that induced temporary death and, to find out what the competition’s next steps would be, he decided to take it without telling anyone. Not even his daughter.

Not Quite Dead Yet: japanese movie review

Nobota-san wasn’t just distant and cold towards Nanase. He acted the same way with his late wife, Yuriko Nobota (Tae Kimura), not even during the last moments of her life, he was present.

“You chose work rather than your family!”

Growing up that way, Nanase spent every moment she had denying her inheritance and hating her father.

“Is there anything you want to do?”

Nanase didn’t know what she liked, only what she didn’t like. Her father. But, the Soulz band couldn’t get enough success.

So, sooner or later, members would have to look for a job and become a regular member of society.

Nanase ficou muito triste quando o desejo dela virou realidade e, além do fim da banda, ela estava sendo obrigada a assumir a presidência da empresa e sendo assombrada pelo espírito do pai.

“My lame old man! He was here!”

Nobota-san wanted to tell Nanase. But, he was convinced by Watanabe not to do that. The truth is, his right-hand man was a traitor who was going to jeopardize the entire legacy of the Nobota family, acting behind Nanase’s back.

The anti-aging pill, which was being developed by Pharmaceutical Nobota, would be named Romeo, after the Disney children’s tale.

During the development process, one of the scientists ended up creating a different pill. It was a pill that, if ingested, would induce a morbid state.

But, the effect was temporary. About two days after taking the medicine, the user would regain physiological functions and consciousness.

Why you should watch Not Quite Dead Yet

I won’t leave Not Quite Dead Yet ending explained or a download link here, but this is a light Japanese comedy with heavy metal, purgatory and gods of death. If you are a Suzu Hirose fan, as I am, of course I recommend it.

In addition to her, the film is full of special appearances such as Elaiza Ikeda, Lily Franky, Takeru Sato and Ryo Yoshizawa helping her to deal with the whole family situation.

I really feel that you will like this one. So I decided to do this Ichido Shinde Mita review. Go ahead, immerse yourself in the story, the environment and the soundtrack.

And come back later to tell me what you think in the comments. This Japanese comedy is a great play on the “be careful what you wish for” catchphrase.
