Samurai X – The Final

If you want to read my review of Samurai X – The Final, read this post. In るろうに剣心最終章, Enishi Yukishiro swears Kenshin revenge for the death of his sister, Tomoe Yukishiro, who was Battousai’s wife and spy.

Kenshin Himura (Takeru Satoh) had been retired from his duties for 12 years. Japan was living in the Restoration Era in 1879.

“It’s time for you to get used to peace.”

Enishi Yukishiro (Mackenyu Arata) was the brother of the late Tomoe, an arms dealer wanted by the police for selling a warship to Shishio.

“I think my sister still hates him.”

Enishi was wrong. He didn’t know that Tomoe Yukishiro (Kasumi Arimura) had forgiven Kenshin, fallen in love with him, and regretted spying on him. Enishi only wanted to avenge his sister’s death.

Enishi’s desire for revenge was based on a superstition related to Battousai’s scar. If it was there, it was because Tomoe hated Kenshin even in the afterlife.

“A scar created by righteous anger won’t disappear until that anger passes.”

This anger was based on the fact that Kenshin had murdered her fiancé. So, Enishi knew he was responsible for the death of his sister and brother-in-law.

The first act of revenge was to bomb the restaurant frequented by Battousai and his friends. The second was to attack the population and the police forces.

“Tell me. Who is using you for revenge?”

Without knowing the reason for the attacks, Sagara Sanosuke (Munetaka Aoki) joined the battle with Kenshin and Megumi Takani (Yū Aoi) helped to care for the wounded.

“All attacks were planned by a man named Enishi Yukishiro, brother of Tomoe Himura, my wife, whom I killed with my own hands.”

In fact, Enishi not only wanted revenge, he was tormented by the memories and Kaoru Kamiya (Emi Takei) had never seen Kenshin so sad.

“I’m sure Kenshin will never forget Tomoe.”

Even though Tomoe had shown intent in protecting Kenshin, before the final ambush 14 years ago, Enishi was willing to do anything for a final battle against the Battousai.

Kenshin not only had enemies because of all the deaths he caused, he also helped to end feudalism and the era of the samurai.

By helping to restore imperialism in Japan, feudalism ended and the samurai, like Kenshin, lost their importance in Japanese society.

Being a samurai was all they knew how to do, and with the rise of the imperial army and firearms, they lost their identity.

Why you should watch Samurai X – The Final

Tao Tsuchiya as Makimachi Misao in Samurai X - The Final

I won’t leave Samurai X – The Final ending explained or a download link here, but I always think it’s beautiful to see 19th century Japan.

I also find Tao Tsuchiya‘s athleticism impressive. In addition to being beautiful and a great actress, she has great control over her own body.
