The Girl Who Leapt Through Time

If you want to read my review of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, read this post. In 時をかける少女, Makoto is a high school girl who discovers that she is able to travel through time. Unfortunately, she also discovered that playing with time has serious consequences.

Makoto Kono (Riisa Naka) said it wasn’t. But, she was clumsy and sometimes unlucky. The day that was supposed to be a nice day turned out to be an extremely unlucky day for her.

“It’s crazy. But, I’m going to die. This is the last day.”

Chiaki Mamiya (Takuya Ishida) and Kousuke Tsuda (Mitsutaka Itakura) are her best friends. They always called Makoto out on her lateness.

“You should give yourself some more time to get to school.”

Every day, Makoto cycled down a hill and crossed the train tracks. That day, the bike had no brakes and, incredibly, milliseconds before she was hit, Makoto disappeared into thin air.

During that unlucky day, Makoto fell onto a mysterious object and, without realizing it, she had already manipulated time once.

“And today was supposed to be a nice day…”

And at the end of the afternoon, when she was about to be hit by the train, she went back in time a little and fell off her bicycle before reaching the railroad tracks.

“You traveled through time and returned to the past.”

According to her aunt, Makoto had jumped in time and going back in time wasn’t that rare. Several girls at Makoto’s age were able to do the same.

“It happened to me, too.”

Makoto began time-jumping wildly, to do better in school and have more fun.

“When you’re enjoying yourself, doesn’t that mean somebody else is suffering as a result?”

Even using it for small and commonplace things, big implications were being created. Before long, Makoto realizes that messing with the timeline can have serious consequences.

“It’s fine. Whatever it happens, I can just go back. I can’t reset as many times as I want.”

Makoto didn’t know yet. However, there was a maximum number of times she could travel in time and it was closer to 0 than she imagined.

For a trivial reason, Makoto reached the jump limit and because of the changes she made to the timeline, Kousuke will die in her place.

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time review: but if we could go back

I don’t believe people who say they have no regrets and would do it all over again. I think, that’s not a smart approach.

I understand that my choices, good or bad, brought me here and it was as a result of the choices that I was able to fulfill several dreams that I had.

But if I could go back in time, I would probably change a few things. Perhaps, not the choices themselves, because I was very aware when I chose. But, the way I dealt with some of my choices.
